Joanie O Connor wasn't looking for danger; she was just trying to finish her book report.
The rural village of North Salisbury, Connecticut in the early 1980s is the ideal setting for Joanie's responsible approach to her life as a devoted daughter, sister and student.
When the old librarian, Miss Peterson, mysteriously falls ill, Joanie is unwillingly drawn into a Cold War conflict involving international spies, and the threat of murder.
Suddenly, the eccentricities of the local populace seem less innocent. Are the village busybodies mere gossip-mongers, or are some of them actively cooperating with foreign agents? Whom can Joanie trust to help her? She is forced to find these answers to protect herself, Miss Peterson and . . . The Misplaced Spy.

ELIZABETH ALTHAM has been teaching at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy in Rockford, Illinois, since 2000. Before that, she served several years as managing editor of The Latin Mass magazine; her articles have appeared there, in Sursum Corda and in Homiletic and Pastoral Review. In 1993 she appeared on EWTN s The Abundant Life, in a symposium in defense of Pope Pius XII. When she began The Misplaced Spy, Mrs. Altham was a homeschooling mother working part time for the journalist William F. Buckley Jr. Her family's move from Connecticut to the Midwest led serendipitously, or otherwise, to the teaching position at the academy. In 2006, the Acton Institute named the academy one of its Top Fifty Catholic High Schools in the nation; in 2009 Hillsdale College awarded it the Salvatori Prize for Excellence in Education. Mrs. Altham hopes to continue teaching there until she is ninety-five.Review:
It was really fun. I thought the characterizations were great. I really enjoyed the story. --Laura Berquist, Author of Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum, Director, Mother of Divine Grace School
