9780982810033: The Thinking Heart: The Life & Loves of Etty Hillesum

The Thinking Heart is an original arrangement of the journal and letters of Etty Hillesum, An Interrupted Life & Letters from Westerbork, constellated as poems, which comprise what we have from this extraordinary Dutch woman before she died in Auschwitz, in 1943. The order and relationships of thoughts and images often are changed, the text edited, yet they remain true to her intentions as best as I have been able to understand.

Review:

Etty Hillesum's remarkable voice and The Thinking Heart ensemble's stirring simplicity. . . make this an intimate and profoundly moving meditation on how. . . to love. The Portland Phoenix Poignant and stirring, The Thinking Heart leaves an indelible impression. Robert Bernheim, Executive Director, Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine Etty confronts us all with what it means to be and remain human under the most extreme circumstances. That is a form of resistance no oppressor can withstand. Not then, and not now. Edward van Voolen, Chairman of the Etty Hillesum Foundation --The Portland Phoenix
