About the Author

Mitchell Kaneff, first-time author of Taking Over: Insider Tips from a Third-Generation CEO, is the Chairman/CEO of third-generation family business, Arkay. With his unique insider's view, Mitchell has written a revealing book about the hidden faultlines and obvious triumphs of life inside a family-owned business. Mitchell's company has been an industry leader in the value added folding carton arena for over a century. Guiding it forward since 1997 and consistently defining and redefining its direction and goals, Mitchell has used his experiences in this privately held family company as a main resource for his book. While committed to his leadership role at Arkay, Mitchell has many other interests, including working on his next book about the unique relationship he enjoyed with his father, Howard Kaneff, who passed away suddenly in 2022, Arkay's 100th year in business. An ardent musician, Mitchell also performed for years with his band, The Young Presidents, and has recently formed a duo, Mitch & Millie, with his wife, Amelia Leigh. Mitchell lives in Southampton and it's his hope that his twin sons, Josh and Max Kaneff, will one day be fourth-generation leaders of Arkay!

From the Back Cover

Mitchell Kaneff always wanted to be a rock star. But when the family business faced especially trying times and its future was in jeopardy, he jumped in to help and became a CEO instead.

Like many generational successions, his was fraught with uncertainty, anxiety, and conflict. Confronted with entrenched family politics, emotional fallout, and difficult legal and financial issues, Mitchell was soon convinced there had to be a more effective--and less stressful--way to weather the transition storms that so often derail family businesses.

When Mitchell emerged successful--though not unscathed--the idea of writing about his ordeal took hold. In Taking Over, he presents a fresh perspective and useful advice to help ease leadership transfer and preserve family legacies. Combining Mitchell's expertise with compelling anecdotes, this book is a must-read for anyone involved in a family business today.
