This work in praise of Thomas Paine's original pamphlet, Common Sense, is an effort to bring it closer to today's situation. This project began many years ago and spans the presidential administrations of both of the major political parties in America. There is no favoritism. Believing that each party, along with independents, have all contributed equally to our current oppression (loss of liberty), it is hoped that party lines will be ignored while reading this as the words are meant for all eyes and hearts who subscribe as Americans, pure and simple, to liberty. Common Sense II reflects a great love of this country, a great love of the people--that is, all of the people--and a great confidence that the people can govern themselves as free people without the force of government on their backs. While it is the love of freedom and of the people that motivates this work it is the actions of politicians and bureaucrats over the past 25 years, and especially the months since October 2008, that has necessitated its publication. The American Dream is presently on the verge of collapse, allowing us to draw many similarities between the present and the year 1776. Accordingly, this book is intended to get the juices flowing toward bringing about action to bind the federal government to Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution. As politicians tend to be rather arrogant when it comes to following the rules, they have corrupted the Constitution as well as many of their own laws. Whereas Paine's pamphlet was to inspire people to take up arms against England for a new Constitution, this Common Sense II is meant to force, without arms, the politicians and bureaucrats to live by the few powers given them in Article I, Section 8. Our government was formed to secure our individual freedoms, not those of specific communities, religions, states, nor those of the country or government as a whole. Securing individual freedom automatically secures that for all of the others.
