In the wake of the most serious drought in recent history, fourteen-year-old Trenton and his brother, Scout, are sent by their village leader to find the wise Togi, who inhabits the Togi Tree and may hold the key to the survival of their village. They discover the life of the mystical Togi Tree is threatened and are sent on a mission to find out why the Cold River has dried up and how the Togi Tree can be saved. With only weeks to spare, Trenton and Scout navigate flash floods, survive unbearable thirst, and avoid wild animals to search for the answers.
Will Trenton and Scout be able to restore the Cold River to its former abundance, or will the lives of the Togi Tree and the villagers be lost forever?

Trenton watched two large dragonflies circle and buzz around his head. It was a hot summer day, perfect for lazing under his favorite tree next to the Cold River. He scratched his dark, mussed hair and smiled.
Once familiar surroundings suddenly changed before his eyes. He blinked as the trees and hills disappeared and the green landscape became barren. A chill ran through him as an orange glow covered the landscape and gave the sun a blood red glimmer. He sat up quickly.
Wildfire! Just like on Mount Nebo last summer.
Trenton clamored to his feet and hurried past a large boulder to a dead tree stump, up a small hill, and down the backside to a rocky ravine. He stopped in his tracks and looked around. Nothing was familiar. I’m lost. He shivered and hugged his arms around his skinny body.
The wind picked up and blew smoke in his face.
What’s on fire? It smelled like wood burning, not wild grass.
