A native of Spanish Fork, Utah, Dennis R. Stilson is personally acquainted with many of the people touched by the crimes of Gary Gilmore. As one of the owners through the experiences of the Gilmore Gun, he s uniquely qualified to tell its tale and offer an examination of the criminal, the crime, and the use of the ultimate penalty. Dennis s childhood was not uneventful. At ten years of age, Dennis avoided being hit by a train by only inches, having been thrown from a startled horse. He did survive, however, growing up with two sisters but losing a brother at 3 years of age. He began boxing at age ten and remained very active for a decade. As a teen, Dennis worked as a paperboy and lifeguard. This man in boots has seen a lot of life. He has saved two people from drowning. For a time, he worked for Robert Redford in the stables at the Sundance Ski Resort. He trained as a pilot, managed a furniture store, toured the west as a singer and guitarist, sold solar and water equipment, ran cable for TV, striped highways, and sold golfing gear and cars. He was a fishing guide in Alaska, a financial advisor, and was in advertising. Finally he was a pawnbroker, gun show dealer, bail bondsman, and single parent. He is currently a Utah State hunter safety instructor and shooting range safety officer. Dennis s life has revolved around the G words: God, guns, guitars, girls, and golf. The order of the last four may vary, depending on the weather. Firearms have always been part of Dennis s life. The past years of dealing with the Gilmore Gun and finding out more its story have changed his life. He hopes one day to build and operate a positive facility to help educate others concerning patriotism and firearms for a better understanding which will hopefully lead to better decisions.Review:
My favorite quote in the book was I didn't realize how much opinions about guns differ in America. I simply never considered other's lifestyles. This book tells a true and tragic story of a failed family and a piece of equipment that became famous because it was used to do a terrible evil. --Jeanie Almond- Director of Education - Elm Fork Shooting Sports -Dallas, Tx.
The Gilmore Gun - Echo of Murder, is a fascinating account of a key crime in American history and the tale of the gun involved. Amazingly, there are times when the criminal has a higher commitment to justice than many in the system. Stilson preserves an important record with this book. ---Larry Pratt - Executive Director - Gun Owners of America
The extra-ordinary life story of the Gilmore Gun, a .22 caliber Browning pistol that rose from humble origins to become America's most wanted firearm, is a fascinating parable for the modern age. --Toby Dye - Award winning documentary producer and director.
