For more than 40 years Roy Hughes has hiked in the North Cascades Mountains of Washington State. This award-winning artist has taken more than seven years to create a book of his artwork - an artist's tour - that includes more than 75 beautiful images of scenes from hikes ranging from the Mount Baker area in the north to Snoqualmie Pass in the south. Accompanying each piece of artwork is a written description of the scene - something interesting about its location, history, geography or other tidbit. From the comfort of your armchair you can visit these lovely settings and experience the beauty of the North Cascade Mountains. Roy served as artist-in-residence at Glacier National Park in Montana in 2005. His book of artwork drawn from this experience, 100 Beautiful Views of Glacier National Park, was published in 2009.

Roy Hughes works in watercolors, acrylics, oils, and uses a computer to create art. He has been juried into a number of art shows and has won awards for his watercolors and computer art. Inspired by the travel posters done by Maurice Logan and Norman Fraser in the 1920s and '30s for railroads in the US and Canada, and by Japanese wood block printers such as Hiroshige and Hokusai, Roy developed a process of creating scenes on the computer in the form of digital block prints. Born in Montana and raised in Eastern Washington, Roy now lives on the wetter side of the Cascade mountain range in Snohomish, Washington. Currently, Roy is working on books of his artwork of Kaua'i and of the Big Island of Hawai'i.
