9780985547202: Dignity What's That Sam?

Sam Kirkland, a homeless man, befriends 12 year old runaway, Andrew Johnson, after the boy is assaulted by gangsters. During their time together, Sam shares his thoughts on the meaning of dignity and what it means to be a real man. This coming of age story takes place in Salem, Oregon and local environs during the summer of 2011. Andrew finds himself having to defend Sam’s dignity when the man is accused of kidnapping and child molestation. He goes up against people’s fears and false beliefs, and in doing so he realizes the truth about his dignity. This book is an attempt to bring dignity back to its rightful place in human relationships, and, if necessary, to reintroduce it to mainstream society.

About the Author:

Aigul Aubanova: originally from Kazakhstan, brings a broader cross-cultural perspective to her independent research in the field of parenting ethics, the essence of which is rooted in the philosophy of internal freedom. Her ideas are inspired by the book Parenting For Everyone by Simon Soloveychik, which she and her husband translated into English in 2006. Victor Dull: from New Stuyahok, Alaska, has been a counselor for the past 16 years, specializing in adolescent mental health and substance abuse issues. Victor uses various modalities in his practice as a counselor, including the philosophical concepts such as dignity, which seems to strike a cord in teenagers. The couple lives in Keizer, Oregon.
