About the Author

David J. Trachtenberg has worked in the national security area for more than four decades, both in the private sector and in government. Confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2017, he was the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy in the Trump Administration. He also served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy in the George W. Bush Administration and as a Professional Staff Member on the House Armed Services Committee. Currently, he is Vice President of the National Institute for Public Policy, a nonprofit research center in Fairfax, Virginia.
