About the Author:

Jonathan Reynolds, MA is a meditation teacher and therapist intern living in Berkeley, California. He has trained extensively in the fields of Buddhist meditation, classical yoga, and both Eastern and Western philosophies. Jonathan earned his Masters Degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, and is also co-founding editor of the Journal of Holistic Psychology and moderator of the Dharma & Psychotherapy Institute, an online consultation group for clinicians seeking to integrate Buddhist teachings and Western-based therapeutic practices. Jonathan is a husband and a father, and his current professional offerings include psychotherapy sessions at Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center (MFTI #75470, supervised by Ken Bradford, PhD, PSY #12277) and productivity coaching for established professionals seeking new perspectives via his council.

Lauren González, MA, MFA, is a writer, editor, writing teacher, and MFTI #77093 (supervised by Kenneth Bradford, PhD, PSY #12277) at the Oakland DBT and Mindfulness Center. She works to integrate the literary arts, nature, and psychology in a complementary way. She received her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, and her Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College, in New York. Her first book, Submerged: Tales From the Basin, was published by StepSister Press in 2008. Lauren has been published widely for 20 years in an array of publications and media, and has completed her first novel, The Junkyard. She works as assistant and editor for renowned twin researcher and psychologist Dr. Nancy Segal, whose recent book Born Together-Reared Apart: The Landmark Minnesota Twin Study won the APA's 2013 William James Book Award. Lauren's work with Dr. Segal combined with her lifelong interest in personality, holism and nature, has led her to holistic psychology. Lauren s intention is to integrate the arts, mindfulness practice, writing, filmmaking and photography, the values of volunteer service, and the principles of deep ecology and nature-based healing (ecotherapy) to her work as a therapist. She is on the Board of the Learning to Listen Yoga & Meditation Collective, and coordinator of the Children's Program at SF Zen Center/Green Gulch Farm. She and her husband, David, live in the Bay Area.

Review:

There is a growing awareness of the need for deep healing of humanity's wounds that have come with the limitations of our dual consciousness. This awakening is slowly becoming a global trend. Neuroscience and mindfulness-based somatic holistic psychology are at the vanguard. The JOURNAL OF HOLISTIC PSYCHOLOGY Vol.2, a collection of brilliant essays by leading practitioners, is a powerful manifesto of the emerging change in our understanding of consciousness itself. --Robert K. Hall, M.D., co-founder Lomi School of Somatic Studies, Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic, Emeritus, Spirit Rock Meditation Center Teachers Council, and Director, El Dharma, Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico

Poetry. Fiction. Cartoons. Sex. Psychotherapy. Case studies. This journal is holistic in both content and form. Not bound by one mainstream school, as are most journals, the articles range over a wide variety of topics and approaches. Leading scholars, therapists, and researchers have written succinct but moving accounts of their work. You will most likely find a number of your own edges touched and challenged. --David Lukoff, PhD, Professor of Psychology, Sofia University, and Founder, Spiritual Competency Resource Center

This impressive volume presents us with a wonderfully diverse set of papers in somatic psychology and bodymind healing, written from the standpoint of the humanistic spiritual traditions and embracing scientific as well as poetic approaches. I believe it is a must read or at least a must sample collection for students and practitioners in this field. --Barnaby B. Barratt, PhD, DHS, author of The Emergence of Somatic Psychology and Bodymind Therapy, and Senior Research Fellow, University of Cape Town
