Because wheelchair accidents and falls can be dangerous, it is important for children and families to practice safety skills when they travel in a wheelchair. Power Wheelchair Safety for Kids (A Super Safe Kids book) engages kids and families with ways to stay safe and avoid accidents in a power wheelchair, while fostering early independent living skills. About the Author
Charisse (Nikki) Montgomery, a patient advocate and educational psychologist, lives in Ohio with her husband and their son, who was born with fiber-type disproportion myopathy, a rare and debilitating neuromuscular condition.
A former educator, Charisse Montgomery has bachelor's and master's degrees in English, along with a master's degree in Educational Psychology, with research focused on informing and empowering parents of medically fragile children. She completed a graduate certificate in Patient Advocacy and serves on the board at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, where she is past-president of the Patient and Family Partnership Council. Charisse is also a member of the editorial board for Pediatrics, the flagship journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and works with the Beryl Institute's Patient Experience Policy Forum and Global Patient and Family Advisory Board, in addition to the Person and Family Advisory group for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
