Welcome to the world of adventure. This book is not a lexicon for would-be cruisers. It is a book with which to relax as you read the story of the fulfillment of one couple's dream to sail their own boat across the oceans of the world. If you love the sea, are afraid of it, or wonder whatever possesses people to set out in a small boat, read on and enjoy. This book is for dreamers. Those who hang over harbour walls looking at the boats below; or those, some of whom we would meet on our journeys, who are landlocked yet, for some mystical reason, dream of the sea. I hope this book will be savoured during the quiet times of many busy lives. For not only is it a book of our discovery of this magical planet and the people who, by chance, make it their home, but it is also a voyage of discovery of ourselves. Through the isolation and challenges of ocean passage making, we learnt about ourselves and each other, which in itself is a priceless reward.

Book Description Greenpark Productions. Paperback. Condition: New. 431 pages. This is the story of a childhood dream. A dream born in a landlocked valley in North Wales that was home for the first twelve years of my life. I can vividly recall standing on a long forgotten hillside looking at the encompassing hills on three sides, letting my eyes be drawn to the distant triangle of blue, twelve miles away at the valleys mouth, where the River Clwyd joined the sea. As we spent our summer holidays at the family cottage in Anglesey, the dream was emancipated to one of seagoing adventure, pirates and all, as I sailed our leaking dinghy around the small islets in our sheltered bay. Occasionally my father would take us to Cymyran a name spoken softly. For it was through this narrow gap that the tide would rush in and out of our bay with mesmerizing ferocity. The ensuing day at Silver Sands brought the excitement of huge waves crashing on the beach after picking up strength crossing the Irish Sea. Never in my wildest dreams while growing up, then living the daily routine of a life of learning and working, did I think that my childhood dream would come true. That I would sail my own boat into exotic harbours of which I had only read, San Francisco, Tahiti, Auckland, Zanzibar, Capetown and more. What romance!Yet, after a lifetime of totally unrelated work, where sailing was restricted to dinghy sailing and later extensive coastal cruising, I found I had the greatest asset of all. Christine, my wife for over forty years, threw herself wholeheartedly into making my dream a reality. I cannot express adequately how proud I am of her courage, and how much I admired her mastery of sailing and her ability to adapt all her skills ashore to a life at sea. To her I shall always be grateful. So this book is for dreamers. So come with us and share some of our adventures and then, who knows, maybe you will be tempted or encouraged to take up the challenge yourselves. This item ships from multiple locations.
