The wild and zany companion book to "Schenck in the 21st Century," “The Chronology of Billy Famous" is an illustrated chronology written by Bill Schenck that includes 38 of his new drawings and an epilogue. “The Chronology,"is Schenck's first unauthorized autobiography and successfully mystifies the basic facts of how he got to be where he is today. Winner of the 2013 US Literary Award for Fine Art.About the Author:
At a young age, Billy Schenck discovered art through comic books. He experienced his first art exhibit at the age of 18: a showing of Andy Warhol’s Campbell Soup cans. He earned his BFA from Kansas City Art Institute in 1969 and soon moved to New York, where at the age of 24, his first one-man show sold out before it even opened to the public. One of the originators of the Pop Western movement, Schenck quickly became known for utilizing cinematic imagery reproduced in a flattened, reductivist style, where colors are displayed side-by-side rather than blended or shadowed. His art incorporates techniques from photorealism and pop art to both praise and mimic classic Western images. Schenck’s work can be found in 45 major museum collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, Denver Art Museum, The Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Booth Western Art Museum, and Tucson Museum of Art. Schenck’s work has been the subject of seven museum retrospectives, including The West as It Never Was, at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art.
