Literary Nonfiction. Art. Urban Studies. Psychogeography. In 2010, Chicago- based artist Hui-min Tsen led a series of free, guided tours through the Chicago Pedway—a circuitous and ever-changing route of indoor passageways throughout Chicago's downtown. Using the Pedway one need never step outside; it links train stations, skyscrapers, civic departments and department stores, containing enough pedestrian traffic to host small, underground businesses as well. Unique for its ad hoc nature, Tsen used the Pedway system to speculate on the various and changing Utopic visions that have shaped not only Chicago's city development, but also American culture. This book is the culminating synopsis of that artistic tour. With this 2-color, accordion fold artist book, one can—for the very first time—follow the same journey independently on foot, or while seated before a fire, in a comfortable living room chair.

Hui-min Tsen's work explores the act of exploration itself with an emphasis on the individual's everyday relationship with place, wonder, and the unknown. Through a series of projects ranging from boat-building to walking tours, she has sought to cross the distance between here and over there by reaching for the myth and mystery present in our everyday landscape. She received a BFA from Tisch School of the Arts, and an MFA in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since moving to Chicago she has been an active member of the arts community, showing and publishing with Hyde Park Art Center, Gallery 400, MDW Fair, and Proximity Magazine, among others. She has participated internationally in screenings, group exhibitions and performances at venues including Public Culture Lecture Series, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Greece and Neighborhood Public Radio's This American Life at The Whitney Biennial 2008. Jason Foumberg placed her project "On the Trail of a Disorderly Future; A Chicago Pedway Tour" on his top ten list. She currently teaches photography and video at Wright College.
