C. Sue Furman, PhD, is a writer and teacher of holistic animal complementary therapies who specializes in helping folks expand their human-canine bond through her Holistic Touch Therapy modalities of pet massage and acupressure and Pet Tech first aid. She holds a BA and MA in zoology from Southern Illinois University and a PhD in biological sciences from The University of Texas. Before founding Holistic Touch Therapy School of Pet Massage and Acupressure and focusing on complementary therapies for animals, she spent over 40 years at major universities teaching future physicians and veterinarians a variety of classes including anatomy and physiology, pathology, biology, and genetics. In addition to teaching, Dr. Furman conducted research concerning nerve and muscle structure and function and published academic books and papers on these topics. Her articles on complementary therapies have appeared in several trade magazines including The Alpenhorn,Clean Run, The Whole Dog Journal, Horse Illustrated, Equine Athlete, and others. Dr. Furman s book, Balance Your Dog: Canine Massage, is considered a comprehensive definitive guide on canine massage. It received the prestigious Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY award and is used as a text by animal massage programs including the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage. An expert in animal massage and acupressure, Dr. Furman is also a certified Pet Tech instructor in pet first aid and CPR, and is certified in canine and equine Healing Touch, the Bowen technique and Reiki. Due to her expert status as teacher and practitioner of alternative animal healthcare methods, she has been interviewed and featured in Dog Fancy, Prevention, Cat Nip, and Cat Fancy magazines. Dr. Furman shares her home and life with the Wolfchase pack of Irish Wolfhounds and Special Blend, Hobo, who allow her ample opportunity to practice canine massage and acupressure. Members of the Wolfchase pack have their own credentials. Several are AKC Champions in conformation, and some appeared in Animal Planet's Breed All About It: The Irish Wolfhound.
