This book introduces 4-6 old musician to pianos scales. We believe that there is a definite benefit to learning scales at a young age. All piano music, even music for beginners, contains short or long scale segments. Developing the correct technique in playing scales will make it easier for a student to work on future pieces. Although there is much instructional literature on scales available, "Klever Keys Scales" is unique in that it is designed specifically for very young children who are not yet able to read. The scales are introduced visually with lively animal characters. This book also contains drawing and coloring pages to entertain and engage each child in the learning process. The order in which the scales are presented in this book is based on the teaching approach of Frederic Chopin. A student first learns the B major scale, which has the most natural position of the hand on the keys. The B major scale gives the student room for the thumb to cross and prevents his or her hand from sliding to the edge of the keyboard (a common problem for young pianists). The B major scale is easy to memorize as the student must play all the black keys along the way. The transition from scale to scale in this book, based on dominant tonic relation, is pleasing and natural to the ear. With each subsequent scale the number of black keys in the scale decreases by one - a countdown format that is very familiar to a child (as in the songs "Five Little Ducks" or "No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed") and is easy to remember. "Klever Keys Scales" is designed as both a teaching tool for an instructor and a helpful workbook for a student. There are four pages for each scale: scale introduction, coloring, drawing, and manuscript paper. A child can use the coloring and drawing pages to create his or her own animal for each scale.
