In publishing this book of poems and photographs, we offer you the world as we have seen it in language and image. A state of awareness allows us to focus on a particular moment in our lives. By what we write or picture, specific images are themselves, but what is finite can be a path to what is universal. We hope you recognize in this work the great abstractions — birth, beauty, love, loss, grief, pain, death.

Lillis Palmer lives on a Cape Cod saltmarsh watching the tides and moon travel their ordained courses. Her poetry has been published in the journal Aurorean, the anthology World of Water, World of Sand, and was awarded first prize in the Katherine Lee Bates Poetry Contest in Falmouth, Massachusetts in 2012. The Aurorean included the poems “Planting Bulbs” and “Moths in September” in their anthology, Favorites from the First Fifteen Years, published in 2012. Lillis was born and raised in New York City during the World War II years of the forties. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a master’s in school librarianship from Boston University. She spent twenty-seven years as a school librarian, is the mother of five children, and grandmother of eight. --- Ida Little and her husband Michael Walsh spent years of nomadic life on a sailboat and later in a tent camper. They now summer in a cottage on a Cape Cod salt pond and winter on a remote freshwater pond in north Florida. They coauthored the book Beachcruising and Coastal Camping — continuously in print for over two decades and considered the bible of small-craft cruising and camping. Ida’s writing and photography are published in Cruising World, Sail, Small Craft Advisor, Sailing, Messing About in Boats, Mother Earth News, and the Cape Cod Times. She’s had solo photography shows on Cape Cod at the Cataumet Arts Center and at the Maser Gallery in Falmouth.
