Bill Dawson is the last living member of the first class of Navy SEALs. He trained with Class 1 in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1943 and graduated as a member of Naval Combat Demolition Unit-2, a precursor group to today's Navy SEALs. NCDU members were among the first U.S. troops to start most invasions, from Normandy to Leyte Gulf, and did it with in their bathing suits. After helping win the war in the Pacific Theater, Bill returned to civilian life, serving as a fire fighter in Washington, DC and raising his family there. Bill was a founding member of the US Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, and contributed many key exhibits. He remains active in supporting Naval Special Warfare history and heritage.
