On 28th June 1940 the undefended Channel Island of Guernsey is subjected to a terrifying air raid by Nazi Germany, killing thirty three innocent locals. Tomato grower Millie Le Gallez rescues Brenda Le Page after she is hit by machine gun fire, only to discover her uncle is one of those killed. Two days later the Germans land and immediately alienate the helpless islanders, beginning an arduous five year occupation. Faced with an ineffective British government and few resources at their disposal, the locals are left to their own devices. Covert attempts are made to resist the enemy under threat of death or deportation. Louise Carre is one who helps the cause, potentially paying the ultimate price for her loyalty. When food rations are reduced and starvation sets in, islanders must do what they can to survive, without knowing who they can trust. Who will make it out alive?

About the Author:

Liz was born and raised in Australia, the bossy eldest of six kids. After working in more careers than Liz Taylor's had husbands, she came to the UK on a working holiday visa in 2001 where she fell in love with partner, Abby. After moving to the 'tax haven' of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, Liz worked in finance for years until leaving the security of an office job to work as a photographer. Roaming the internet in early 2012 gave Liz the inspiration she needed to complete her first novel and was lucky enough to win the ‘When Sally Met Sally’ writing competition. This lead to the release of two lesbian historical novels being released - ‘Journey to the Other Side’ and ‘A World Inverted’. When not working she can be found spending time with Abby, their mischievous one year old son, three dogs and a rescue cat called Churchill.
