Se aborda no solamente el influjo de la filosofía liberal y de los movimientos revolucionarios franceses en Europa y en las colonias americanas, sino también las relaciones entre los titulares de las monarquías ibéricas con responsables y próceres políticos de aquél entonces. Esta obra analiza asimismo temas como el traslado de la corte lusa hacia tierras brasileñas, la anexión de la denominada provincia Cisplatina y la importancia del espionaje, inteligencia, masonería y control de la prensa y de la opinión pública en la conformación de la integridad territorial de Brasil (especialmente a partir de 1822).
