The Body Clock Diet is the ultimate weight loss toolkit - a clear and concise guide to everything that is known about how the body gains and loses weight. Presented in twenty-four straightforward sections, The Body Clock Diet enables the reader to burn fat twenty-four hours a day, even during sleep. The trick to successful slimming is to work with the body, not against it: the human body houses a finely tuned biochemical clock that works with near twenty-four hour precision. Learning to eat, drink, sleep and even exercise in tune with the body's circadian rhythms stimulates metabolism and promotes fat burning, eliminates cravings and engenders a healthy attitude to food. On The Body Clock Diet the reader will learn: how to time meals to maximum effect; how to switch to fat-burning mode during sleep; how to switch off hunger hormones and switch on appetite suppressant hormones; how to ensure that the body's metabolism is working to maximum capacity. Weight loss is not the only positive outcome that can be expected from following The Body Clock Diet: it is an approach that can lead to improved energy and vitality and reduced risk of developing chronic disease such as heart disease and diabetes. The book is fully referenced and draws on robust scientific evidence throughout.

Maria Cross MSc (Public Health Food & Nutrition) has been a nutritionist for over 20 years. For seventeen of those years she helped thousands of people lose weight and regain health through diet. After eight years as a lecturer in nutrition at the University of Westminster, she turned to full-time writing. This is her fourth book - previous titles include Nutrition in Institutions, I Wish I Hadn't Eaten That, and Food and How to Make a Healthy Meal of it. Maria practises what she preaches, but that was not always the case. She grew up in London, with absolutely no interest in diet or health. After a misspent early adulthood, where healthy food played no part and cigarettes, wine and late nights were pivotal, she eventually found herself strangely drawn to the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. She originally studied modern languages, and after graduation headed off to Italy, spending three years absorbing the culture and way of life. Food - good, fresh, well-cooked food - played a significant role in her re-education. Returning to the UK, she brought with her an appreciation of the value of eating well, which was to evolve into a love of both good food and good health. Imagine her surprise when she discovered that the two were joyfully compatible. After returning to the UK she began to study nutrition. This was to be her passion in life. It also put paid to half a lifetime of intestinal misery, but that's another story.
