"If you read no other"alien" authors this year, don't miss WALLS OF WIND." ~Bookreporter

What if males and females were completely different species?
On the alien planet Wind there are two sentient species: the Ghen are fiercehunters who protect the walls of their city-state, while the Bria are farmersand artisans who bear the young of both species. They have nothing in commonexcept their biology, and struggle to live together.

Briarris is determined to change that--to evict Ghen from their jointcity-state into the wild forests beyond. After all, the Ghen spend much oftheir time there already, hunting and exploring. But when Briarris learns theterrible secret at the heart of their civilization, everything changes. Withthe help of a handful of Bria and Ghen, Briarris fights to save theircivilization from being destroyed by the dark secret within and the terriblepredator that hungers just outside their walls.

WALLS OF WIND combines gender relations, sociology and anthropologicalspeculation with the tragedy, suspense and triumph of individual characters. Robert J. Sawyer critiqued Walls of Wind and had this to say: "Look out, C. J. Cherryh! Step aside, Hal Clement! There's a new master of truly alien SF, and her name is J. A. McLachlan. THE WALLS OF WIND is doubtless THE debut novel of the year." - Hugo award-winning Author Robert J. Sawyer

Review:

"In ways SF readers can favorably compare with icons of the genre, such as Ursula K. Le Guin, James Tiptree Jr. and Robert J. Sawyer, WALLS OF WIND boldly weaves anthropology, psychology, drama, future history, even meteorology, into a tapestry of viewpoints and epiphanies that propel McLachlan's characters toward a necessary and illuminating change in their collective relationship. ... If you read no other "alien" authors this year, don't miss WALLS OF WIND."
