Synopsis
Ex-Cops & Robbers is a literary venture into the psyches of good men who explore the dark side. Wally Schuster and Clarence Dunnigan had served 25 years on the police force as the only two honest officers among a corrupt department. But retirement and its meager pension isn’t kind to Schuster, who faces a mid-life crisis when his cherished wife, Gloria, leaves him for a more fulfilling life of excitement and thrills. When Schuster is asked by his former boss to assist the department while the rest of the officers provide security for the visiting President, he sees an opportunity to rise from a boring life of mediocrity. Schuster’s chance comes when he is tasked to drive an armored car filled with millions of dollars of worn-out bills destined for the shredder. Since budgetary cuts, records aren’t kept current. No one knows just how much money is going to be destroyed. And everyone’s attention is on the visiting President. Who’s to know if any of the bills went missing? It’s a crime with no victim and the money is nothing more than trash at this point anyway. The idea is simple and it may enable him to get Gloria back for a life of luxury.
