While author Andrew Kishner is no fan of explosive atom-splitting events, this decade-long radiation watchdog takes the reader on a journey in his 2015 book about the rigged monitoring of the Fukushima disaster that is at-once intense, jarring, and illuminating. 'RIG, RAD, RUN: Radiation Monitoring, Fukushima, and Our Nuclear Dystopia' tracks the author's investigation into the corruption of science within the U.S.'s response to the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe and his activist ordeals as one-time webmaster of NuclearCrimes.org, an ad-free website showcasing his independent research. A constant in the nuclear age is its ability to continually defy our conventional beliefs and expressions. Kishner's 'Rig, Rad, Run' provides a genuine alternative to the mismatched, mainstream way of thinking about our dangerous and strange new age.

ABOUT THE BOOK: 'Rig, Rad, Run' addresses the shortcomings and manipulations in the radiation monitoring responses of two U.S. federal health agencies in the wake of the Fukushima disaster. The book primarily focuses on the radiation monitoring activities of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the Fukushima aftermath and argues that preconceived, unscientific notions corrupted the agency's sampling, testing and reporting methodologies and protocols. Among the book's many startling findings: the EPA failed to find in the U.S. any plutonium emitted from Fukushima (yet it was detected downwind in Lithuania) or any radioactive strontium beyond Hawaii (even though it was detected a hemisphere away downwind in Russia)! Although the book attempts to guide the reader through advanced topic discussions, some understanding of nuclear history or radiation basics is helpful.

EXCERPT from 'Rig, Rad, Run': "Without adequate radiation monitoring, no one could know for sure if one or more cohesive and concentrated airborne plumes of radiation crossed the Pacific from Fukushima in March 2011, nor know what was in them. My conclusion at the end of my investigation was that the EPA might have allowed hazardous plumes to cross into the U.S. undetected. This was the result of pitifully meager sampling and analyses coupled with testing protocols that were as unimpressive as the layout of the RadNet network itself."

Kishner blends into this retrospective of his discoveries on the U.S. Fukushima response a fascinating narrative about his activism, sharing with the reader the kind of inner struggles that anti-nuclear crusaders and writers often face. Kishner, who is self-taught on many nuclear topics, also shares his unique take on the frustration of being an 'unapproved channel.'

Kishner concludes his book with two hard-to-swallow assertions regarding the harsh nuclear reality unmasked in 'Rig, Rad, Run.' First, we're not being protected from radiation incidents and, in the future, Americans should RUN if government monitoring manipulations -- and rigging -- become evident. Second, the problems of nuclear dystopia stem directly from the failures of the humans that created and support it. The author presents a solution that challenges citizens with its revolutionary simplicity.

In 2017, 'Rig, Rad, Run' was re-released as a Kindle e-book with a new introduction to the original 2015 version.

Book Description Andrew Kishner, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. RIG, RAD, RUN: Radiation Monitoring, Fukushima, and Our Nuclear Dystopia addresses the shortcomings and manipulations in the radiation monitoring responses of the U.S. EPA and FDA in the wake of the Fukushima disaster. In the book, author Andrew Kishner argues that preconceived, unscientific notions corrupted the EPA s sampling and testing activities to monitor Fukushima radiation and were used by FDA to justify substandard monitoring (and even doing no monitoring at all) of domestic and imported seafood for radiation linked to the disaster. These failures may have harmed the health of Americans in the years after the triple nuclear reactor meltdowns in Japan in 2011. EXCERPT from Rig, Rad, Run : Without adequate radiation monitoring, no one could know for sure if one or more cohesive and concentrated airborne plumes of radiation crossed the Pacific from Fukushima in March 2011, nor know what was in them. My conclusion at the end of my investigation was that the EPA might have allowed hazardous plumes to cross into the U.S. undetected. This was the result of pitifully meager sampling and analyses coupled with testing protocols that were as unimpressive as the layout of the RadNet network itself. Kishner, a nuclear researcher and former radiation monitoring network watchdog, blends into this retrospective of his discoveries on the U.S. Fukushima response a fascinating narrative about his activism, sharing with the reader the kind of inner struggles that anti-nuclear activists and writers often face with burnout and plagiarism. Kishner, who is self-taught on many nuclear topics, also shares his unique take on the frustration of being an unapproved channel. Kishner concludes his book with two hard-to-swallow assertions stemming from his revelations of scientific misconduct and government malfeasance about the U.S.-Fukushima response and similar failures that have dangerously littered (with junk) the halls of science relating to the understanding of radiation risk. First, we re not being protected from radiation incidents and Americans should--in the future--RUN if government monitoring manipulations (and rigging) become evident (RIG, RAD, RUN). Second, the problems of nuclear dystopia stem directly from the failures of the humans that created and support it. The author presents a solution that challenges citizens with its revolutionary simplicity. This book is suited to readers with a working knowledge of radiation basics and nuclear history. Book Description Andrew Kishner. Paperback. Condition: New. 128 pages. Dimensions: 9.0in. x 6.0in. x 0.3in.RIG, RAD, RUN: Radiation Monitoring, Fukushima, and Our Nuclear Dystopia reveals the alarming shortcomings and shocking manipulations in the U. S. EPA and FDAs radiation monitoring response to the Fukushima nuclear accident. Author Andrew Kishner, an anti-nuclear activist researcher and former radiation monitoring network watchdog, describes the manipulations and failures he discovered in the EPA and FDAs radiation monitoring networks, sampling plans, testing protocols and data reporting methods. Kishner argues in RIG, RAD, RUN that, because of these monitoring failures, U. S. federal agencies might have allowed dangerous radioactive plumes to cross into the country undetected as well as the entry of unsafe food items into the U. S. marketplace. Kishner also shares in this retrospective the struggles that arose from his dedicated efforts to raise awareness on these and other under-reported or unreported radiation topics through his website, NuclearCrimes. org. The conclusion of this gut-wrenching account of scientific misconduct and government malfeasance is that were not being protected from radiation incidents and change will only come if citizens take on greater personal and collective responsibility.
