9780997160413: High Impact Leadership: 10 Action Strategies For Your Ascent

Like you author Brian Braudis believes the traditional view of leadership is outdated, ineffective and unattractive. The new view and the new role of leadership is open to reinvention with the involvement of YOU.
Brian Braudis examines the new shape of leadership opportunity (less emphasis on profit and production and a greater emphasis on people, society, well being and purpose) in today's climate of heightened uncertainty and unfamiliarity. The demands of innovation, competition and added complexity point to the need for leaders with a high level of composure, flexibility and adaptability. Open-mindedness, diverse and agile thinking along with collaboration have supplanted autocratic, dictator and demander leadership.New leadership requires new strength, new competencies and a new level of engagement from the top. Team members today demand support; encouragement, coaching and mentoring and they want to be listened to. Team members want to be heard not lectured to, screamed at or looked down upon. High Impact Leadership: 10 Action Strategies for Your Ascent offers a new look, a new beginning and an opening for a 21st century leader--less emphasis on profit and production and a greater emphasis on people, society, well being and purpose.Braudis emphasizes that a leader's potential for impact lies in the shift from dictator to cultivator, less about dominating and dictating and more about involvement and influencing. Today's leader is the "lead collaborator."The potential for creating lasting impact is open to new leaders and seasoned leaders alike when each day is used as an investment to: *Raise the standard. *Convert dissonance to connectedness. *View problems as areas for innovation. *Turn risk into reward. This book offers a new look to finally believe in leadership as the one thing that can change everything. There is a grand opportunity for YOU to increase your influence and help people, team members and colleagues become stronger, more powerful, more resourceful, more humane and more like the kind of leaders we all want to see. Make your Impact!

From the Author:

To think different read different. Begin here.
Like you, Brian Braudis has observed the many attempts to describe leadership. Charismatic, magical, competent, or is leadership a situation or a process where leaders play the essential role?
In High Impact Leadership, Braudis considers a new view, less about productivity and profit and more about people and society. This is not a book on the 5 quick tips to leadership success. Rather, you are encouraged to increase your strength and character, build solid steel confidence....develop the strength to know what to do when you don't know what to do. Go beyond effective. Make your Impact!

From the Inside Flap:

INTRODUCTION
"Leadership is tangible energy that optimizes the efforts of others toward a goal or mission."-- Brian Braudis
The role of leadership is changing almost as fast as technology. Some corporate leaders are now becoming better known for their purpose than for their profit. I believe it's a natural progression. We have created industry and prosperity and now we want to work toward the next level--using what we have to create value beyond profit. Business and profit remain critically linked but profit is no longer the only incentive. Profit is not a meaning, not a purpose and it certainly is not fulfillment; profit for stakeholders is more of a short-term win.
Now the call is to use short-term wins to create profitable institutions that additionally cultivate a better world by harnessing the needs of society and the environment to the business effort. Businesses are prime real estate for addressing social problems. Workers today want not only to work. They want to contribute to something higher, something greater. They want work to pay the bills and create fulfillment. Everyone wants to be associated with a winner. People want to be able to sing the praises of their employer and know that they are valued. Anything less in the 21st Century is simply unacceptable.
Harvard Professor Michael Porter, a leading authority on global competitive strategy has said that for a nation to be competitive, businesses must compete successfully in the international marketplace while maintaining or improving the standard of living for average citizens. Both parts must be present to have a highly competitive United States. According to Porter, "It's the iron law of the marketplace."1
I agree and add: Only when business substantially improves the lives of its workforce and citizens will we become dramatically more competitive in the world economy.
We are on the cusp of opportunity, a new frontier of human prosperity where disparities shrink, well-being is cultivated and personal fulfillment is encouraged. In this environment, the most successful leaders are what I call high-impact leaders. They lead with personal strength, finesse, humility and credibility; they cultivate a climate of innovation through problem-solving and idea-generation while superbly managing day-to-day operations; and they are sensitive enough to recognize diversity as an organizational strength and agile enough to recognize the entire world as a market.
I am not suggesting that high-impact leaders have all the answers. To the contrary, they have the questions: "Is this all we should be doing? Could we do more? Who should we enlist to help? Using what we have right now, how can we make a difference in society?"
High-impact leaders recognize that our future is not set in stone. Our daily decisions--what we believe about ourselves, how we interpret situations, the systems we support, the actions we take, habits, traditions--all contribute to and create our future. The future is shaped by how you invest now.......
