"The Staunton, Virginia Bathroom Reader" is a collection of short, fascinating, quickly read fragments of history from the famed Queen City of the Shenandoah.
In the 22 years that author Charles Culbertson wrote history stories (and eight books) related to Staunton, he collected random bits of research that—while interesting—weren't long enough to make full stories out of. Every few weeks he would put together a Staunton Bathroom Reader for an area newspaper in which he used a smattering of these short items as stand-alone pieces.
And that’s what you'll find here—hundreds of brief stories, one-liners and historical footnotes—complemented by dozens of rare photographs collected by the author throughout his career. Everything is arranged in chronological order, from 1747 to 2000, and run the gamut from funny and inspirational to tragic and just plain idiotic.
