In 1969 a thin volume was published in the US by an obscure Russian Historian and Dissident predicting the Collapse of the Soviet Union. The work, by Andrei Amalrik, was dismissed by most historians, although his analysis and observations were admitted by many to have perhaps some relevance. Now in hindsight, most Historians of the era now agree that Amalrik's thesis, and his understanding of the factors that lead to the collapse was an accurate and insightful view of the causes of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Unfortunately Andrei Amalrik is now only a footnote in most historical analysis, and this short work attempts to return Amalrik to the forefront of Soviet historical analysis. His life, untimely death, and more importantly his full analysis of why the Soviet Union collapsed due to internal corruption, mal-investment, human repression, and what can be called 'reverse darwinism' or the survival of the least fit in society and government provides an exacting description of the inevitable collapse.
