Europe and the Maritime World: A Twentieth-Century History offers a new framework for understanding globalization over the past century. Through a detailed analysis of ports, shipping, and trading companies whose networks spanned the world, Michael B. Miller shows how a European maritime infrastructure made modern production and consumer societies possible. About the Author
Michael B. Miller is Professor of History at the University of Miami. He is the author of The Bon Marché: Bourgeois Culture and the Department Store, 1869–1920 (1981) and Shanghai on the Métro: Spies, Intrigue, and the French between the Wars (1994). Professor Miller serves on the board of the International Journal of Maritime History.
