A scholar of medieval culture and literature, as well as Canadian culture and literature, he has authored or edited more than fifteen books, including The Canadian Imagination: Dimensions of a Literary Culture, Tennyson's Camelot: The Idylls of the King and its Medieval Sources, and The Letters of Stephen Leacock.
