Modern Power System Protection guides the reader through all of the principles of modern protection systems and schemes in the smart grid era. The authors provide a comprehensive guide to protection principles, before examining digital systems and equipment used for modern protection schemes. They then discuss the new protection paradigms that are emerging due to the application of Synchronized Measurement Technology, involving Phasor Measurement Units, Data Concentrators and new Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control (WAMPAC) applications. Key features: * Surveys new trends such as protection of distributed generation, digital equipment for protection and wide area and adaptive protection concepts. * Explains the fundamental concepts of protection with numerous worked examples and review questions helping the reader to better understand the models. * Evaluates the new protection paradigms that are emerging due to the application of renewable energy plant and Synchronized Measurement Technology. * Book companion website hosts problems and solutions, making it suitable for either self-study or for use on a university course. Integrating a diverse range of topics into one useful volume, including the latest developments and recent trends, this text provides an effective guideline for students and professionals on many vital protection schemes.
