Q&A with David Farbman, author of The Hunt

Who will benefit from The Hunt?

I wrote this book for anyone who needs to gain calm and clarity in life. Whether you’re more comfortable in the boardroom or the backwoods, The Hunt will help you learn to live and execute with more purpose, awareness, and openness to the great power of the natural order. The Hunt will show you how to go after your goals while still being true to who you are.

How does a hunter’s mindset help us clarify goals and go after them?

A hunter’s mindset allows you to learn to identify the difference between what is real and what is fear, and then take that knowledge to push past barriers to reach your desired outcomes. When you think like a hunter, you gain a heightened awareness, tap the primal instincts from within, and can take down your most meaningful targets. With predatory consciousness, you’ll understand how to be present at this moment in your life so you can recognize opportunity and know to seize it.

Why is it such a challenge to focus clearly on what we want to accomplish?

We all get hung up on the noise or the clutter of situations and lose perspective of what it is we really want. As a result, our targets get further and further out of sight and zone. While it’s easy for anyone to get overwhelmed, small changes lead to innovation. There is always time to take a new tactic. The principles of The Hunt are designed to provide a clearer, sharper lens for seeing the world. You’ll learn to make better decisions, form stronger alliances, build superior strategies, target bigger wins, and uncover more opportunities.

How did you become a hunter? And how has hunting changed you?

I was a crazy, energetic kid. I give my parents an incredible amount of credit for recognizing my need to connect with nature on a very basic level. That connection has allowed me, throughout my life, to return to the woods and fields to find calm and clarity, to be able to step out of my busy mind and tap into my authentic self, the part of me that is wholly my own without judgment. Some of the most profound moments of my life have happened in a tree stand, where I could literally see farther, beyond the clutter that blocked my view. So I’ve been developing the ideas in The Hunt for my entire life. Now I am able to find that same clarity and calm within myself wherever I am. That mindset allows me to cut through negative, sometimes overwhelming messaging, so business decisions are clear-cut and focused. For me personally, it is easier to shed the past and live in the moment.

From the Back Cover:

Praise for The Hunt

“I never thought of myself as a hunter until this book proved me wrong. David’s no-nonsense style has given me a unique insight to approach my meetings, projects, and even personal goal setting in a more productive, calculated way. All of our portfolio leaders here at DVP (and entrepreneurs in general) think of themselves as hunters, out to disrupt the status quo. Start your own hunt today, with this book, and move closer to achieving whatever’s at the other end of your arrow. I highly recommend The Hunt.”
—Josh Linkner, CEO and managing partner, Detroit Venture Partners, and author, New York Times bestseller Disciplined Dreaming and The Road to Reinvention

The Hunt nails the bullseye with its comparisons between hunting and business. There is no doubt this book can help you hit more of your targets in life.”
—Bill Jordan, founder, Realtree

“At first I wasn’t sure about a book on hunting and business, but The Hunt will help you shape a clearer picture of what you are after and how you will go and take it. I loved this book.”
—Stacey Coopes, CEO, FordDirect

The Hunt is a must-read for anyone looking to understand their most basic instincts and get more out of business, life, and relationships.”
—Robert Taubman, chairman, president, and CEO, The Taubman Company

The Hunt is a fresh, authentic take on the relevance of hunting to business and life. It will make you think differently about what you do every day and, more important, how you do it.”
—Rich Stoddart, CEO, North America, Leo Burnett Company

“I look to David Farbman and The Hunt for advice. You should, too.”
—Les Gold, owner, American Jewelry and Loan, and star, TruTV’s Hard Core Pawn
