Synopsis

Thrive in the new economy by leading ahead of the next evolution

Reimagining Work is the business leader's guide to surviving―and thriving―in the new on-demand economy. As the business and workplace environments evolve, traditional management strategies are becoming obsolete; the skilled workforce demands flexibility and more control over their work―things that the major corporations repeatedly fail to offer. Is it any wonder that the best and brightest talent is increasingly moving toward smaller companies with alternative management structures? Companies like Uber, Lyft, Handy, and Task Rabbit? These businesses have seen major success by attracting the right people―by giving them what they want. As the shift continues, businesses will need to change the way they recruit, develop, and train talent. This book shows you how to restructure and reconfigure your current strategy toward one that will help your business not just survive, but grow stronger in this new environment by offering what top talent demands.

Niche spaces like transportation and general labor may have catalyzed the movement toward on-demand, but their influence is spreading and traditional businesses must adapt or die. This book shows you how to turn the shift into an asset for your company by leading through change for the better.

  • Reconsider your current talent sourcing strategies
  • Update your team development and training programs
  • Build a flexible workforce that thrives in the "on-demand" economy
  • Develop your business to succeed amidst the changing business paradigm

Growth is more than just expansion; it's also maturation, adaptation, and evolution. Our economy is on the cusp of a seismic shift, and smart businesses will implement change early before the obsolete start falling behind. Reimagining Work gives you actionable guidance for staying ahead of the curve.

From the Back Cover

A NEW PARADIGM FOR CREATING A WORKFORCE THAT MEETS THE CHALLENGES OF TODAY'S ON-DEMAND ECONOMY

"Reimagining Work is an inspiring thesis portraying the tectonic shifts occurring in the workforce, and the promise of the self-empowered freelancer for the future. Amidst the backdrop of the real-world case study describing the vision, formation and success of Catalant, the reader gains a deep appreciation for what it takes to successfully launch a start-up, while being inspired by the possibility of a future where everyone can be an entrepreneur, pursuing their passions and shaping their careers in ways that were unimaginable just a few short years ago."
Brad D. Smith, Chairman and CEO, Intuit

Written by the co-founders of Catalant, Reimagining Work offers leaders a framework for fundamentally rethinking talent at global enterprises. Large corporations are currently burdened with an inflexible and outdated human capital model that can't meet the demands of the business cycle. Simultaneously, in today's on-demand economy, talented workers are seeking a series of projects that are flexible, purpose-driven, and give them more control and ownership over their work.

Reimagining Work explores a new paradigm that combines a mix of flexibly staffed full-time employees and highly skilled free agents. In this blended model, there is little distinction between "us" and "them" the ideal talent for a given "job to be done" is accessed seamlessly in real time.

Now is the time to reimagine your workforce!

From the Inside Flap

Reimagining Work lays out a vision for the future of work. Global companies are increasingly focused on a more dynamic, agile approach to talent, yet few software providers or academic thought leaders have created an operating system to manage a complicated but likely inevitable endeavor.

This book offers an essential guide for accelerating the future of work into the present situation for your company. Today's skilled workers seek roles that offer flexibility, a sense of purpose, societal impact, and control over their work. Unfortunately, these features are often lacking in major corporations. As we increasingly shift towards an on-demand economy, competitive companies are actively reconsidering how to source talent and manage a dynamic workforce. Reimagining Work offers forward-thinking leaders a resource for understanding what it takes to build a flexible workforce and develop a business that can thrive today and into the future.

The authors advocate for a new labor paradigm. It represents a complete disruption in the way businesses conceptualize human capital. This vision shifts the key work structure from a job to a project, facilitating the re-alignment of a workforce organized around specific tasks. This change in turn allows for a far more diverse source of talent and an ability to create a combined internal and external marketplace. In time, talent and opportunity are matched far more efficiently, resulting in better capacity utilization and increased total productive output. This paradigm allows you to find the best people, on demand.
