The before mentioned charities were in 1837, by the order of the Lord Chancellor, vested in three bodies of trustees, who were designated the General, the Church, and the Kendrick Charity Trustees. These bodies of trustees still exist, but the management of the charities has been much altered by a scheme of the Charity Commissioners, which in 1861 was embodied in an Act of Parliament. By this Act many of the smaller bequests were consolidated, and the aggregate sums applied to purposes more suited to the exigencies of the times than those contemplated by the several donors.' Under the head of Consolidated Almshouse Charities, John A'Larder's and Bernard Harrison's Almshouses and their endowments, and also the several charities of Robert Boyer, John Ball, Richard Ironside, Augustine Knapp, John Noyse, Dr. Swaddon, Richard Turner, Rudolph Warcupp, Thomas Lane, Peter Wyboe, William Thome, Mary Worsley, Edward Kemys, Edward Hamblin, William Brackstone, John Eyre, William Joanes, Thomas Deane, James Pocock, William Ironmonger, and Mary Love, were consolidated, and after paying for the repair of Mary Love's vault in St. Lawrence's Church, the General Charity Trustees were to pay 7s. per week to the inmates of John A'Larder's and Bernard Harrison's Almshouses, and £2 to each inmate every Christmas. The surplus income was to be left to accumulate to form a building fund. The Trustees were also empowered by the Act to leave all vacancies unfilled until the building fund was large enough for the erection of new almshouses.
