The receiver translates the three other cipher words by reference to the Telegram Formula, and finds the nine sentences indicated by the nine letters of the alphabet which these three cipher words represent, and he is thus put in possession of the complete communication. Repetition of Reference.--Should it be found necessary to allude to the subjects a second or third time, selecting nine additional sentences upon each repetition, the economy of words is considerably increased, and the required repetition or repetitions may be effected by transmitting the cipher words indicating the sentences selected. COMBINATION CODE FOEM No. 16, APPLIED TO WOEDS. Should the numbers 1 to 2,028 represent 2,028 subject words, and the three columns of the alphabet following each represent 78 phrases or qualifying words to be read with the subject words, the economy effected in the transmission of a message would be proportionately the greater, as the two cipher words indicating the subject words would, in that case, convey three important words which would actually read and count as part of the message, instead of merely indicating a subject; and the whole five cipher words of the message would convey a total of twelve words, consisting of either subject words, phrases, or qualifying words.
