This was done the beginning of April,-she latter end of May gave the first horse-hoeing, turning a surrow from the Tows, leaving a ridge of moulds in the surrows. In about ten days hand-hoed the rows; The middle of June gave the second horse-hoeing, reversing the last; but I found some disficulty in this operation, by the pease in many places falling into the surrows. Some were unavoidably covered by the plough, and more would have been, had not I set a boy to turn them out of the way where they were much fallen. I designed two more horsehoeings; but thought it better to confine myself to one more, which was given the end of June,.and a hand-weeding ac the same time. It is not in the nature of pease, unless supported by sticks, to keep so upright as to admit of the fame horse-hoeing as more erect crops. They were hooked the beginning of August.
