About the Author:
Stephen Carl Arch received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia in 1989. Since then he has taught at Michigan State University where he is currently Assocaite professor and Associate Chair in the Department of English. In 1996 he received the Walt Whitman Fellowship in the Fulbright Program and taught for one semester at the University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He is the author of "Authoring the Past: The Rhetoric of History in Seventeenth Century New England" (DeKalb: Northern Illinois Univ. Press,1994) and of articles in Early American Literature, The William and Mary Quarterly and other scholarly journals.
