Of the total mileage of main line operated, 236 miles is directly owned, and the balance is leased or otherwise controlled. Comment: During the year 1920, the company reported a further substantial increase in both passenger and freight density and its train mile earnings reached the best figure of the decade. The company is now being benefited by better average freight rates than formerly and its heavy coal tonnage is undoubtedly being handled at a substantial profit. For many years this company has been an important transporter of anthracite coal, this item of tonnage generally representing from fifty-five to sixty per cent of the total business done.
