Excerpt: Adolfo Carrión, Jr. (born March 6, 1961) is a Democratic politician of Puerto Rican descent from City Island, located in New York City, New York. He has served for six and a half years as the 12th Borough President of the Bronx, the Chief Executive of the Borough. He is the highest ranking Latino elected official in the State of New York and also serves as the President of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO). On February 19, 2009, President Barack Obama chose Carrión to be Director of the newly created White House Office of Urban Affairs with the White House Domestic Policy Council., and he stepped down from the Borough Presidency on March 1. Carrión's position at the Domestic Policy Council ended on May 3, 2010, when the Obama Administration subsequently named Carrión Regional Director for HUD's New York and New Jersey Regional Office. Adolfo Carrion was born in Manhattan in 1961, but his family moved to the Baychester section of the Northeast Bronx when he was in fourth grade.
