PREFACE TO THE REVISED EDITION Tjie Social Workebs' Handbook is a revised edition of The Tenants' Manual, which appeared in 1903 as the first of a series of publications issued by Greenwich House. It is intended only for workers in New York City. The present Handbook brings down to date the statements in the Affiminl and includes much additional material in regard to health and sanitation; savings and loans; legal provisions of especial interest to those engaged in philanthropic work; citizenship and government; education and amusement. The duplication of information given in the New York Charities Directory has been avoided as far as possible. The Handbook is in no respect meant to supply the place of the Directory, but is intended to be used as a small companion volume to the latter.
