Excerpt: ... Chapteb VI. REUNION OF THE IVES BROTHERS ON THE ST. REGIS. SOMETHING over twenty years ago an arrangement was made for a reunion of the Ives Brothers to take place in Potsdam, N. Y. And as they were all horn and bred fishermen and hunters, a grand trout fishing and camping trip was planned for their entertainment in the Adirondacks at the camp of the writer on the St. Regis River. In my father's family there were seven healthy hoys, but at the time of which I write there remained living but five of them, two of whom were residing in Potsdam, and the other three in the State of Minnesota. My youngest brother was Lieutenant Governor, my oldest brother was Circuit Court Judge, while my brother next in age held the position of Dairy Commissioner of that State. My brother, who resided in Potsdam, had also some political proclivities, but the writer was an ordinary citizen, without any aspirations in that direc tion. The Minnesota contingent arrived in Potsdam, as 1 now recall it, in the month of July, and we marched them up from the depot and onto the hay scales in front of the old American House. The entire group of five brothers tipped the beam at 1035 lbs., and I am obliged to say they were a pretty husky looking lot of boys. As soon as arrangements could be perfected we started out for camp, and as we were all in good health and had not been in camp together since we were young boys, we were full of joyful anticipation. We only went as far as South Colton the first day. The following morning we got an early start, and made the camp at the foot of the Ten Mile Stillwater on the St. Regis River. We did not need guides for this occasion, but had engaged a man cook who met us at that point. There was a camp located here where we spent the night. In the morning...
