Annually about 5o vessels have their compasses tested, and a great number of instruments, used on board of ships, such as chronometers, sextants, etc., are seen to and repaired. Some connection may also be traced between the port and: the Ethnographical Museum, and the Maritime Museum Prince Hendrik. Both these Museums are established in the buildings of the former Yachtingclub on the Willemsquay. When the Club, which had erected this building (vide Chapter II) had suffered much by the death of H. R. IT. Prince Henry of the Netherlands, who had been the patron of the society, and was fast losing its members, the premises were purchased by the Municipality. After having been empty for some time, the greater part was fitted up as an Ethnographical Museum in 1884. Most interesting objects are there found from every part of the world. The East Indies and Africa are especially represented by many curious and rare objects. The collection is still increasing, but the want of room is every day felt more keenly. Plans are now being considered for the construction of a third story on top of the present building, which will make it possible for many beautiful and interesting articles, now packed away in drawers, to be properly exhibited.
