Donald Deming was one of those Connecticut farmers who were among the early settlers of Ohio, and there he established his home near the present town of Rootstown, where he resided until the time of his wife's death, when he sold his farm and moved to Clinton, lud., and soon afterwards moved to Bloomington, Iowa, where he died. His youth was spent working on his father's farm, but he found time to gain a common school education. When, at the age of 21, he started out in the world for himself, all his possessions were tied up in a red silk handkerchief, and he journeyed on foot from his old home to Cleveland. After he had located his land, he walked back to his father's home to obtain the aid his father had promised him, and returned to Ohio with a white horse and a green wagon loaded with farm implements, and other things which his father had given him.
