The Coloring Book Murders, by Shirley Ann Burke Oaks "The Coloring Book Murders" revolves around the story of a young girl named Angel, and how she learns to protect herself and survive. The eldest of eighteen children,she bears the heaviest burden of finding ways to feed her family since her mother has long ago retreated into her own world after losing several of her children to illness and starvation. As for Angel's father, he is far too selfish to mind other people's needs, even if they are his wife and children. Angel soon fashions a deadly weapon to protect herself from ill intentioned men around her. Later in life Angel gets deeply involved in charity work for women and children. However, she comes face to face with her dark past and must resolve it. But she is happy that her two children will never go through the same life she was forced to live with only a sharpened nail for security.
