About the Author:

Danielle Groshong-Keperling has worked full-time in the restoration industry since 2001, but her education in the traditional trades, construction industry, and historical preservation was built beginning in toddlerhood by both her Father's work in a traditional trade and her Mother's love of historical architecture. In addition to her role as Chief Executive Officer of Historic Restorations, founded by her Father, in Lancaster, PA, Danielle has helped develop many different presentations and seminars for various preservation groups using The Secretary of the Interior's Standards and other preservation resources. Supporting preservation and the traditional trades is important to Danielle and in 2011 she spearheaded the founding of the Central Pennsylvania Preservation Society a non-profit group focused on providing a collaborative educational environment for professionals in the preservation community in Central PA.

Charles Groshong has worked in the construction field for over thirty years, twenty of which were focused on the restoration of our built history and the practice of the traditional trade of handcrafted, fine millwork. His approach to restoration has been a whole house approach, completing all aspects of the restoration process using a small crew to control quality and an accurately finished product. In 1995 Charles opened a millwork shop at the company that would become Historic Restorations in Lancaster, PA. Using traditional joinery, and a blend of modern and traditional tools (both hand-operated and mechanical), the millwork shop produces high-quality, custom woodworking, historical restorations and replications. The traditional trades and historical preservation are also important to Chuck and along with his support of the Central Pennsylvania Preservation Society, he also coordinates and instructs classes and educational seminars on the traditional trades and historical preservation.

Review:

The Preservation Primer is a book that all owners of older homes should keep handy. Besides benefitting the homeowner, most contractors can really learn a lot from it too. If everyone follows the information outlined, the homeowner can avoid unnecessary repairs and be a more educated consumer to avoid improper repairs that can harm an old building. --Ken Roginski, OldHouseGuy.com

This is a "must read" book for anyone that owns, and is considering, renovations to their historic home. --Donald A Dale, D.A. Dale Building Designs
