About the Author:

Carolyn Stone, Ed.D., is a professor of Counselor Educator at the University of North Florida, where she teaches and researches in the area of school counselors and accountability as well as school counselors negotiating the legal and ethical complications of working with minors in schools. Prior to becoming a counselor educator in 1995, Dr. Stone spent 22 years with Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida, where she served as a middle school teacher, elementary and high school counselor, and supervisor of guidance for 225 counselors. She was the 2006 president of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and is in her eleventh year as ASCA's ethics chair. In 2010, ASCA awarded Dr. Stone its highest honor--the Mary Gerke Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012, she was awarded the Florida School Counselor's Association's Robert Myrick Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Stone is a past president of the Florida Counseling Association and the Florida Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors. She has delivered more than 500 workshops in 50 states and 15 countries, and has authored three books and dozens of journal articles. Dr. Stone's professional path in elementary and high school counseling, middle school teaching, guidance supervision in a large urban school district, and counselor education has equipped her with firsthand experience and understanding of all facets of the professional world of school counselors.

Review:

"This book was very readable and the practical tips and strategies will be helpful for school counseling students."

"I love the 'mindset' perspective offered throughout this book. It really is what needs to happen, and it's refreshing to see this promoted here."
