The object of this series of picture studies is to place in the hands of the student a definite plan of approach and an introduction which may lead to a better acquaintance with the world of art. Although most of the text has been prepared for children, the language is not too simple for anyone beginning the study of pictures. Advanced students will find the subject of this study exhaustively treated by many critics whose works may be found in Public Libraries. A bibliography for such students is given on page 30.
The picture talks which accompany the prints give only such details of the artist's life as are necessary for the proper setting. The artist's point of view, the limita tions and influence of his environment, must be taken into account in order to understand his pictures.
