Excerpt from The Mohammedan Missionary Problem
A Discourse on "The Mohammedan Missionary Problem," delivered before the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, meeting at Saratoga Springs May 18, 1879, by the Moderator, the Rev. Henry H. Jessup, D. D., of Beirut, Syria, attracted general attention, and awakened a desire on the part of many to have it in print. In compliance with this demand, and at the request of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, Dr. Jessup has rewritten and enlarged the discourse, and the result is here given to the public.

Drawing on a broad range of resources, the author shows how Christianity's arrival in the seventh century sparked both conflict and cooperation between the two religions. The author takes a balanced approach, providing insights into the reasons for Islam's rapid spread and establishment as a major world religion, while also acknowledging its role as a catalyst for the development of Christianity in the Western world.
