Excerpt from Outline in Geography
In the preparation of this course the observational and representative features of the work have constantly been kept in mind. As stated by the Committee of Ten, the true order of geographical study should be: First, see; next, reproduce; then study the productions of others, and, meanwhile ponder and reason on all.' Through a study of the simple phenomena of nature and through 1 study of man and his institutions as seen by the pupils in their home, school and social life in Stockton, they should be led with these standards of comparison to gain a conception of the world as a whole. In the primary grades the geography and history of Stockton, San Joaquin County and California are studied with great care, not alone because of local importance, but that they may become real units of measurement with which other cities, counties and countries may be compared.
