Excerpt from Geometry the Elements of Euclid and Legendre Simplified and Arranged to Exclude From Geomtrical Reasoning the Reductio Ad Absurdum; With the Elements of Plane and Spherical Trigonometry, and Exercises in Elementary Geometry and Trigonometry
Ex way of preface, I will state what I have done in this edition, and explain the reason why I have done so. I have used such propositions only which are required to substantiate the principal theorems and problems by which the principles of Geometry have practical applica tions in Trigonometry, Surveying, Mechanics, Engineering, Navigation, and Astronomy. I have generalized the various propositions found in the school editions of Geometry, and where particular cases arise under such general propositions, I have given the demonstrations for them. I have arranged the propositions to give the Direct Method of demonstra tion in place of the Reductio ad absurdum or Indirect Method.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents foundational geometry theorems and problems with a new approach that employs only the Direct Method of demonstration. It excludes the Reductio ad absurdum or Indirect Method of demonstration, aligning with the spirit of an increasingly progressive modern era. The author, a respected scholar and educator, presents a streamlined approach to the subject that emphasizes simplicity and accessibility. The text, enriched by contributions from eminent mathematicians over centuries, provides an updated and practical interpretation of geometrical principles. By eliminating the Indirect Method, this book offers a clearer pathway to understanding geometry. It explores the fundamental concepts of lines, angles, triangles, and parallelograms, elucidating their properties and interrelationships. The Direct Method ensures that each proposition is proven directly, fostering a deeper comprehension of the subject. This book is an invaluable resource for students, educators, and anyone seeking a comprehensive understanding of geometry. It revitalizes this ancient subject, making it more relevant and accessible to contemporary learners, contributing fresh insights to a discipline that continues to intrigue and challenge.
