Excerpt from Lectures on the Apocalypse
The two former Editions of this Work commenced with two Lectures On the Doctrine of a Millen nium, which are now reprinted separately in the same size as the present Volume. Accordingly, what was the Third Lecture in the two former Editions, is the First Lecture in this Impression; and so on, in succession. The Appendix, to which reference is some times made in the Notes to these Lectures, is sub joined to a Volume published in 1849, which con tains the Greek Text of the Apocalypse with mss.

Christopher Wordsworth (1807-85), the "Great Christopher" of Winchester and Trinity College, Cambridge, was a nephew of William the poet, and brother to Charles, the student who launched the University Boat Race. In 1832, Christopher took a gap-year, after his brilliant studies in ancient Greek and Latin classics, to travel back in time over two thousand years to Pericles' Athens. The account of his tour, Athens and Attica (1836), is still the perfect scholarly companion to the history, topography, and myths of an area compact in dimension yet vast in terms of its contribution to Western civilization.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the complex and often debated topic of the Book of Revelation, exploring its authenticity and place within the canon of scripture. The author examines the historical context of the book, paying particular attention to the seven churches in Asia Minor to which it was addressed and the reactions of those churches to its contents. The book then moves to a detailed analysis of the book's symbolism and its relation to other parts of scripture. The author addresses objections to the book's authenticity, arguing that its powerful and often challenging content makes it a vital addition to scripture's overall message. Readers will gain a nuanced understanding of the Book of Revelation's historical, theological, and literary significance, enriching their own understanding of Christian faith.
